Backwards Design

Our graduates attain professional competence in a broad set of core and specific content from our competency-based, backwards design curriculum.  A backwards design approach starts with the target outcomes of the program, then works backwards from end through beginning to align milestone outcomes at the year and course level towards achieving success.

Competency criteria will be established that define core content for all students and specific content for areas of interest and electives. Expectations, or targets for growth, should also be established to define appropriate professional dispositions and be used as a framework for guiding student development.  These expectations will complement core and specific competency criteria as learning goals for the entire four year program.  Establishment of a curricular map for aligning outcomes at all levels is crucial.
